On May 19, 2023, 34-year-old security guard Adalberto Santiago was fatally shot while on duty at Preston Center Plaza in Dallas, Texas. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when Santiago confronted an individual attempting to break into vehicles on the second floor of the parking garage. A struggle ensued, during which Santiago was shot by the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect fled the scene in a gold Toyota Camry, which was later located in a closed business parking lot in the 2200 block of North Cockrell Hill Road. Following an investigation, Dallas police identified and arrested 17-year-old Antwon Osborne on May 23 in Nevada. Osborne was subsequently extradited to Texas to face charges related to Santiago's death.
At the time of the shooting, Osborne was out on bond for previous charges, including theft, evading detention, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. He has since been indicted by a grand jury on a murder charge for the fatal shooting of Santiago.
