On May 26, 2023, 33-year-old Glenn Allan Maples of Copperas Cove, Texas, was fatally shot in Kempner. The incident occurred at a residence in the 1500 block of County Road 3340, where Maples had been visiting his friend, 43-year-old Michael Oran Woods. According to reports, an argument ensued between the two men, culminating in Woods shooting Maples as he was walking away.
