In the summer of 2024, the life of Hannah Marie Rogers, a 30-year-old White woman from Tucson, Arizona, was brought to a tragic and violent end. Described by those who knew her as a bright and compassionate individual with an infectious smile, Hannah's caring nature was a light in her community. This light was extinguished on the night of July 28th in her Marana home.
On that Sunday evening, a chilling chain of events began to unfold.
Hannah's boyfriend, 30-year-old Taton Dorfman, shot her in the head, killing her. He also shot and killed her dog, who was found lying near her. In a shocking and brazen act following the murder, Dorfman initiated a FaceTime call to an ex-girlfriend. During the video call, he showed himself lying next to Hannah's body, confessing to the crime. The ex-girlfriend acted quickly, taking screenshots of the horrific scene and immediately reporting the incident to the police.
When officers from the Marana Police Department arrived at the residence on West Mosquito Drive for a welfare check, they were met with a dangerous situation. Dorfman refused to cooperate, barricading himself inside the home for several hours. During the standoff, he admitted to killing Hannah and threatened to take his own life. With the assistance of the Pima County SWAT team, negotiators were eventually able to convince Dorfman to surrender in the early hours of the following morning. Upon surrendering, he was found to have blood on his hands and face. Inside the home, police discovered the tragic scene exactly as the ex-girlfriend had described, along with a handgun and a large amount of alcohol and drug paraphernalia.
Taton Dorfman was arrested and initially charged with first-degree murder and animal cruelty. The legal proceedings that followed saw the charge amended to second-degree murder. In September 2025, a jury found him guilty of killing Hannah Rogers. The following month, a judge sentenced him for the crime, bringing a close to the legal chapter of a senseless act that cut short a vibrant and cherished life.
