On May 30, 2023, at approximately 11:15 p.m., 24-year-old Davion Scott was fatally shot at a Citgo gas station located at 13103 Westheimer Road in Houston, Texas. Surveillance footage revealed that Scott had been parked at a gas pump for about 15 minutes when a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice approached and parked behind his vehicle. Two men exited the Caprice: one stood near its passenger door and fired shots at Scott's vehicle, while the other walked up to the driver's side and shot Scott at
close range. The assailants then re-entered their vehicle and fled eastbound on Westheimer Road.
Scott, a father of two young daughters aged 5 and 2, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family expressed profound grief and called for justice, with his aunt stating, "Y'all gunned him down like he was a dog... We want justice for him and we're not going to give up."
The Houston Police Department identified the suspects as 27-year-old Derrick Trumaine Jackquet and 30-year-old Marquel Deshawn Ponder. Both were charged with murder. Jackquet was arrested on December 21, 2023, by the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team. Ponder remained at large until his arrest by the Atlanta Police Department on July 23, 2024, in Fulton County, Georgia; he is awaiting extradition to Harris County.
The arrests provided some solace to Scott's grieving family, who had been vocal in their demands for the perpetrators to be apprehended. The case underscores the persistent efforts of law enforcement agencies across state lines to bring those accused of violent crimes to justice.
