On June 4, 2023, at approximately 3 p.m., Adam Glass, a 33-year-old aspiring rapper known as "Glizzy," was fatally shot while receiving a haircut at the Black Lotus barbershop inside North Star Mall in San Antonio, Texas. Two assailants, both wearing black hoodies, approached Glass and shot him multiple times in what authorities have described as a targeted, execution-style attack. The gunfire caused panic among shoppers, leading many to flee or seek shelter within the mall.
Surveillance footage reviewed by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) revealed that the suspects were dropped off at the mall shortly before the shooting. One suspect was described as a Black male with a thin build, wearing a black hoodie and light-colored shorts; the other wore a black hoodie and dark-colored pants. Both suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting, and despite a thorough search, they were not apprehended at that time.
At the time of his death, Glass was nearing the completion of a 56-month prison sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was residing in a downtown halfway house and was scheduled for release in April 2024. Glass had a history of legal troubles and had previously identified himself as a former gang member who was striving to rebuild his life and pursue a career in music.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Glass's family launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses, remembering him as a kind and loving individual who deeply cared for his family. The incident has drawn attention to the broader issue of gun violence in San Antonio, prompting community leaders to call for increased efforts to address the root causes of such violence, including poverty and lack of education.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Adam Glass's death. The SAPD continues to investigate the case, urging anyone with information to come forward. The lack of progress in identifying and apprehending the suspects has been a source of frustration and grief for Glass's family and the community, who are seeking justice for his untimely death.
