On June 7, 2023, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Houston police officers responded to a shooting at 1445 Lakeside Estates Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered 22-year-old Dummene "Lucky" Kponi in the driver's seat of a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported seeing four males fleeing the scene in a dark-colored SUV.
Investigations revealed that the incident occurred during a transaction that escalated into a robbery.
Through further inquiry, authorities identified 18-year-old Adrian Marks as one of the four suspects involved. At the time of identification, Marks was already in the Harris County Jail on unrelated felony charges. On January 16, 2024, he was formally charged with capital murder for his role in Kponi's death.
As of now, the three other suspects remain unidentified and at large. The Houston Police Department continues to urge anyone with information regarding the case or the additional suspects to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or to provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
In the wake of this tragedy, Kponi's family expressed their profound grief and sought support through a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses. They remembered Lucky as a compassionate individual with boundless potential, who played a significant role in the lives of his loved ones.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring justice to the Kponi family.
