On July 5, 2023, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Dallas police officers responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 1400 block of Peru Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 50-year-old Walter Smith Jr. deceased from a gunshot wound inside the home. Investigators determined that Smith had been shot during the overnight hours.

Following an investigation, on July 18, 2023, a 15-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with Smith's death. Due to th ...
