On July 10, 2023, in White Oak, Texas, 61-year-old Kimberly Jayne Alexander was found deceased in her home by her son, having suffered two gunshot wounds to the head.
The investigation quickly focused on her husband, James Michael Alexander, aged 63 at the time. Two days prior to the discovery of Kimberly's body, James had been involved in a car accident at the intersection of Highway 80 and Highway 42.
During the investigation of the collision, officers found two handguns in and around his vehicle, including a .45 caliber handgun and a 9 mm handgun. James was transported to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler for treatment following the accident.
Upon discovering Kimberly's body, officers noted the absence of forced entry at the residence. Recalling James's recent accident and the firearms found, investigators obtained a search warrant for his clothing, which was still at the hospital. During the search, they found two empty shell casings in his pants pocket. These casings matched bullets found in his car, and the .45 caliber handgun was missing two rounds from its magazine. This evidence linked James to the crime scene.
James Alexander was arrested on July 12, 2023, at a hotel in Longview, Texas, without incident. He was charged with the murder of his wife, Kimberly. In February 2024, James pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years.
