Sarah Alexis Furey, a 32-year-old woman from San Antonio, Texas, tragically lost her life on January 21, 2018. She was fatally shot outside her home during a scheduled custody exchange with her estranged husband, Richard Concepcion. Furey, a mother of three, had filed for divorce from Concepcion on October 31, 2017, and a temporary restraining order was granted the following day.
The incident began when Concepcion, who had moved out of the family home three months prior, arrived at
Furey's residence. According to police reports, Concepcion shot Furey and then fled with their 18-month-old son, Aaron Joseph Concepcion. An Amber Alert was issued for the toddler shortly after Furey's body was discovered. Concepcion was later found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Guadalupe County and died from his injuries. Their two other children were found unharmed at Concepcion's apartment.
Authorities had been called to the home several times for domestic issues since the couple's separation. Records show that police were called to the residence on November 8 for a violation of a protective order, on January 7 to assist the public, and on January 11 for threats. Furey had reported to police days before her death that Concepcion had threatened to kill her.
The tragic event highlighted the serious issue of domestic violence and the importance of protective measures for victims. Furey's family has since sought public support through a GoFundMe page to help care for her children.
