On January 27, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, 25-year-old Alyssa Nicole Perez was found fatally shot alongside 32-year-old Edward Acosta Jimenez. Their bodies were discovered inside a vehicle parked on Trudell Drive, near Loop 410 and Vance Jackson Road. The discovery was made by Jimenez's mother, who, upon attempting to wake her son for work, found the unfamiliar vehicle with the two victims inside.
Investigations revealed that Perez had recently ended a relationship with 18-year-old Lazerith Esteban Carrillo. Family members disclosed that, approximately a week prior to the murders, Carrillo had fired a gun at Perez's vehicle following their breakup.
On the same day as the murders, Carrillo was arrested for attempting to carjack a vehicle in the vicinity of the crime scene. During his arrest, he was found in possession of a firearm matching the caliber of the weapon used in the double homicide, as well as Perez's cellphone and identification cards. Further forensic analysis linked Carrillo to the crime scene through fingerprints found on a plastic cup inside the victims' vehicle.
Surveillance footage from a neighbor's security camera captured the shooting, showing a man matching Carrillo's description walking away from the scene shortly after the crime. Additionally, communication records indicated that Carrillo had been in contact with both victims on the day of the incident.
Based on the accumulated evidence, Carrillo was charged with capital murder involving multiple persons. He was taken into custody and held on these charges, awaiting trial for the deaths of Alyssa Perez and Edward Jimenez.
