On the evening of July 18, 2023, at approximately 10:12 p.m., Dallas Police Officers responded to a shooting call at 8733 Dunlap Drive in southeast Dallas. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Michael Chalmers, who had been fatally shot by an unknown assailant. Tragically, Mr. Chalmers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Michael Chalmers was born on December 15, 1993, in Marshall, Texas, to Vernetta Smith and Michael Chalmers Sr.
He attended Marshall ISD during his early years and developed a passion for football, playing for local little league teams. Continuing his athletic pursuits, he played football at Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas, and earned a full scholarship to Arkansas Baptist University. After graduating, Michael dedicated time to coaching little league teams in Dallas and was actively involved in his church community. He was a devoted father to his two sons, Prince Michael and Semaj, and had a passion for music, serving as the CEO of Black Dollar Records.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Michael Chalmers' death. The Dallas Police Department continues to investigate the case and has appealed to the public for assistance. Homicide Detectives are seeking any information regarding the incident or potential persons of interest involved in the shooting. Michael Chalmers' funeral services were held at Peaceful Rest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, with visitation on August 3, 2023, and a Celebration of Life on August 4, 2023. He was laid to rest at Carver Memorial Park in Ferris, Texas. He is survived by his mother, father, two sisters, two brothers, and his children, among other relatives and friends who cherished him deeply.
The community continues to mourn the loss of Michael Chalmers and hopes for justice to be served. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to aid in resolving this tragic case.
