In the spring of 2023, the life of 21-year-old Joshua L. Chism, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Natchitoches, Louisiana. On the morning of April 12th, police responded to a call of a shooting at an apartment on the 100 block of North Melrose Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Chism inside, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office.
The investigation into
the homicide quickly gained momentum, aided by crucial evidence from a ring doorbell camera that captured two men at the victim's apartment complex. This footage proved instrumental in identifying the individuals allegedly involved in the fatal shooting. Within a short period, the Natchitoches Police Department announced the apprehension of two suspects in connection with Chism's death.
One of the suspects was identified as 21-year-old Johnny Williams, also a Black male from Natchitoches. He was taken into custody and charged with Principal to Second Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Following his arrest, Williams was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
The second individual taken into custody was a 17-year-old male whose name was not publicly released due to his juvenile status. He faced charges of Second Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile. After his arrest, the juvenile suspect was transported to the Ware Youth Center. Authorities confirmed that both suspects were apprehended without incident.
