Summary based on 8 sources
On August 27, 2023, 34-year-old Joshua Richard "Josh" Troutte was fatally shot in his Dallas, Texas, home. The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. in the 4800 block of Ash Lane. Upon arrival, Dallas police officers found Troutte with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed that 49-year-old Patricia Conlon, mother of Troutte's girlfriend, was responsible for the shooting. Conlon's daughter informed police that she had been in an "ongoing domestic disturbance" with Troutte since December 2021. The day before the shooting, Troutte allegedly struck her above the eye with a cell phone, though no police report was filed. Planning to end the relationship and move out, she called her mother for assistance.

Conlon admitted to calling 911 before entering Troutte's home with a firearm, intending to hold him at gunpoint until police arrived, as he had previously fled during domestic incidents. A roommate reported seeing Conlon enter with a gun and hearing Troutte yell, "Just shoot me!" before multiple shots were fired. Conlon claimed she fired in self-defense after Troutte grabbed her arm and pulled her hair; however, police found evidence contradicting her account.

Consequently, Conlon was arrested and charged with murder. Authorities noted that her attempt to detain Troutte at gunpoint and the perceived lack of reasonableness in her use of deadly force undermined her self-defense claim. Additionally, Troutte had a criminal history, including a guilty plea to assault and family violence in 2018. The investigation remains ongoing.

Joshua "Josh" Troutte was born on February 26, 1989, in Rowlett, Texas. He graduated from Rowlett High School in 2007 and attended Texas A&M University. An Eagle Scout, he was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly camping and hunting, and was a master scuba diver. A talented artist, he worked as a private studio tattooer with a dedicated clientele. He is survived by his two daughters, parents, siblings, and grandmother.
