On August 29, 2023, authorities in northwest Harris County, Texas, responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 700 block of Marne Lane. Upon arrival, they discovered 86-year-old John Groves and his 54-year-old daughter, Anne Groves, deceased inside the home. Investigators determined that John Groves had fatally shot his daughter before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide. No other individuals were present in the residence at the time of the incident.
