On the evening of September 15, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting incident in the 8400 block of Old Hickory Trail, near Rosy's Food Mart in Southwest Dallas. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old WaTerrion Javon-Turcel Evans seated in the driver's seat of a vehicle, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Evans, known to friends and family as Jordan or Nine, had arrived at
the location with an individual who occupied the front passenger seat of his car. Surveillance footage indicates that after parking, the passenger shot Evans while he remained in the driver's seat. The assailant then exited the vehicle and attempted unsuccessfully to remove Evans from the car, likely hindered by Evans' stature, as he was approximately 6 feet 6 inches tall. Failing this, the suspect searched through the vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot toward a nearby apartment complex.
The Dallas Police Department has described the suspect as a Black male, dressed in dark clothing with a distinctive white stripe on his pants. A second individual is believed to have been involved, accompanying the shooter during the escape. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with Evans' murder. Detectives are actively seeking assistance from the public to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible. He was dedicated to his faith from a young age, participating in various church activities, including singing in youth choirs and joining clubs like the Eager Beaver, Adventurers, and Pathfinders. Evans was known for his love of video games, drawing, pets, and spending time with family and friends.
