On September 16, 2023, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Fort Worth police responded to a 911 call reporting a man covered in blood banging on a neighbor's door, claiming his girlfriend had been shot. Upon arrival at the 500 Flats Apartments on Woodchucker Drive, officers discovered 29-year-old Paris Holbert with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
Robert Holbert, Paris's husband, initially informed police that she had shot herself and that the firearm remained in the apartment. However, investigators noted inconsistencies in his account. The apartment exhibited signs of a violent altercation, including a Glock handgun with a spent casing on the living room couch, several knives scattered on the floor, and a broken candle. Additionally, Robert had a laceration on his arm, which he refused to explain; it was later identified as a graze from a bullet.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Paris died from a single gunshot wound to her right breast, with the bullet penetrating her chest. The medical examiner listed the manner of death as undetermined, indicating it was not conclusively ruled as homicide, suicide, or accidental. Based on the wound's location, police expressed skepticism about the possibility of it being self-inflicted.
Robert Holbert was arrested on unrelated traffic warrants shortly after the incident and subsequently charged with murder in connection to his wife's death. However, on March 13, 2024, a Tarrant County grand jury declined to indict him on the murder charge, effectively dropping the case against him. The decision was confirmed by his defense attorney, Lesa Pamplin, who emphasized the grand jury's choice not to proceed with charges.
In the aftermath of Paris's death, her family highlighted her devotion to her two children, a 7-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. They organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses, remembering Paris as a loving mother whose children were the center of her life.
