Sheri Hill, a 55-year-old woman from Fort Worth, Texas, tragically lost her life on August 16, 2019. Sheri was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a shootout outside the Eastwood Food Mart in the 4000 block of Wilbarger Street. She was walking away from the store when gunfire erupted between a man exiting the store and a car in the parking lot.
Sheri was shot and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Following the incident, Fort Worth police launched an investigation and arrested Cardae Davis, 24, on suspicion of murder. Davis was charged with murder and held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Surveillance video from outside the store was handed over to the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
Sheri's death deeply affected her family and the community. Her brother, Roosevelt Stolden, expressed the family's heartbreak, noting that Sheri had already lost her son to gun violence the previous summer. The community mourned the loss of Sheri, who was remembered as a vibrant and beloved grandmother.
Despite the arrest, some community members felt that more needed to be done to address the crime and violence in the area. Sheri's neighbor, Amy Tutt, who had lived next door to Sheri for 50 years, voiced her concerns about the safety of the neighborhood and the impact of such incidents on the community.
