On September 25, 2023, 19-year-old Savannah Rodriguez was fatally shot in her family's apartment in South Dallas. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when a man knocked on the door of the apartment located on Lyons and Elsie Faye Heggins Street. As Savannah approached to answer, the assailant fired multiple shots through the door, striking her, her grandmother Minerva Arredondo, and her boyfriend Christopher Morales.
Savannah succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Arredondo and Morales were hospitalized; both were expected to recover.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jeremiah Moore, fled the scene and proceeded to a nearby car wash, where he shot and injured another man. Later that day, Moore was apprehended over 250 miles away in Donley County, Texas. He faces charges including one count of murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Witnesses reported that Moore had been acting erratically prior to the shooting, allegedly threatening individuals he believed were "messing with his wife." However, the exact motive behind the attack on Savannah and the others remains unclear. Family members stated they did not know Moore and are seeking justice for the senseless act that claimed Savannah's life.
