On December 10, 2023, at approximately 6:50 p.m., 65-year-old John Davis was involved in a shooting incident in southwest Houston. A friend had picked him up from a store located at 10310 West Bellfort Avenue, with Davis seated in the backseat of his own vehicle. As they drove past an unrelated minor accident in the 9800 block of West Bellfort, an unknown assailant opened fire on their car. The driver sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while Davis was struck and rendered unresponsive.
The driver managed to drive them both to a nearby hospital, where Davis remained in critical condition.
After battling his injuries for over two months, John Davis succumbed to complications from the gunshot wound on February 22, 2024. The Houston Police Department has since classified the case as a homicide and is actively seeking information regarding the perpetrator. Witnesses described the suspect as a Black male wearing a gray hoodie, seated in the backseat of an unidentified sedan. Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in connection with Davis's death.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
John Davis's passing has left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who are now seeking justice for his untimely death. As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful that those responsible will be apprehended and held accountable.
