On the evening of February 13, 2024, at approximately 10:38 p.m., 51-year-old Ricardo Garcia Oliveros Jr. was found lying near his pickup truck in the 2200 block of Remynse Drive in Arlington, Texas. He had sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.
Surveillance footage from a nearby school captured Oliveros arriving at the scene in his pickup truck and stopping along Remynse Drive. An individual on foot approached the vehicle, fired a single shot, and then fled northbound. After the shooting, Oliveros exited his vehicle and collapsed on the ground.
Investigators recovered a shell casing at the crime scene, which was entered into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). In June 2024, a match was found linking the casing to a handgun recovered from 25-year-old Rondre Mayberry during an unrelated arrest on June 8, 2024. Mayberry had been apprehended for unlawful carrying of a weapon, resisting arrest, and violating a protective order at an apartment complex in Arlington.
Further investigation revealed that Mayberry's cell phone records placed him at the crime scene around the time of the murder. Additionally, surveillance footage showed a suspect fleeing the area consistent with Mayberry's movements. On October 4, 2024, Arlington Police charged Mayberry with the murder of Ricardo Oliveros. At the time of the charge, Mayberry was already serving a five-year prison sentence at a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility in Abilene for an unrelated conviction.
Despite the arrest, detectives have not determined a clear motive for the shooting, and no known connection between Oliveros and Mayberry has been established. The investigation highlights the collaborative efforts of the Arlington Police Department's Homicide Unit, Patrol Bureau, Traffic Division, and Crime Analyst Unit in bringing justice to Oliveros's family.
