On February 22, 2024, 69-year-old Stanley Ralicki was fatally shot in the backyard of his brother's residence on Marsha Lane in Wichita Falls, Texas. Stanley, a resident of Arizona, had traveled to Texas with his longtime friend, Curtis Cremona, to assist his younger brother, 61-year-old Raymond Robert Ralicki, in relocating to Arizona. The visit took a tragic turn when an argument escalated, leading to Stanley's death.
According to police reports, the incident began when Stanley entered the house to urge Raymond to expedite the moving process. Shortly after, Raymond emerged into the backyard armed with a revolver, shooting Stanley twice—once in the head and once in the back—resulting in his immediate death. Raymond then fired two shots at Cremona, who fortunately was not injured. Cremona promptly called 911 to report the shooting.
Upon arrival, Wichita Falls police officers found Raymond in the front yard, still armed. He initially refused to comply with orders to drop his weapon, expressing a desire for the officers to shoot him, stating he would rather be dead than spend the rest of his life in prison. Eventually, officers subdued and arrested him. During the arrest, Raymond reportedly stated, "I snapped. I should have shot myself instead."
Raymond was charged with murder for the death of his brother and aggravated assault for firing at Cremona. He was held in the Wichita County Jail with bail set at $250,000. On December 13, 2024, Raymond pleaded guilty to both charges in the 78th District Court. Judge Meredith Kennedy sentenced him to 45 years in prison for murder and 20 years for aggravated assault, with the sentences to run concurrently. This tragic event was not Raymond's first encounter with law enforcement over gun-related incidents. In January 2021, he was charged with deadly conduct after pointing a gun at a neighbor, accusing them of shooting at his dog. Despite this prior misdemeanor conviction, he retained the legal right to own firearms, as such convictions do not automatically forfeit an individual's right to possess a gun under Texas law.
