On April 4, 2024, at approximately 1:14 a.m., Waco Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of North 6th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 22-year-old Austin Bowar suffering from a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Waco Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division took charge of the homicide investigation.
Despite thorough efforts, including canvassing the area and interviewing potential witnesses, no suspect was located at the scene, and the identity of the perpetrator remained unknown. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward, offering avenues such as contacting the Waco Police Department directly or providing anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers, with the possibility of a reward for information leading to an arrest.
As of December 27, 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with Bowar's death. The case remains open, with detectives continuing to seek leads. The community has been encouraged to assist by providing any information that might aid in identifying and apprehending the suspect responsible for this tragic incident.
In the wake of his passing, Bowar's family and friends mourned his loss. A funeral service was held on April 11, 2024, at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, Texas, followed by burial at Bosqueville Cemetery. Bowar was remembered for his love of drawing and painting, his dedication to his work in customer service at Sonic in Waco since 2018, and the joy he found in spending time with his family and friends.
