On April 6, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Garland Police Department officers responded to reports of a weapons disturbance at an apartment complex in the 4200 block of Duck Creek Drive in Garland, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Marquicha LaShun Mingo, a Dallas resident, suffering from gunshot wounds. Mingo was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The investigation revealed that the incident originated from a disturbance in Dallas involving multiple individuals, which escalated into a physical altercation in the parking lot of the Garland apartment complex. During the confrontation, at least two firearms were discharged, resulting in Mingo's fatal injuries and non-life-threatening injuries to a second adult male victim, who was also hospitalized.
On April 12, 2024, Garland police arrested 32-year-old Christopher Polk, a Dallas resident, in connection with the shooting. Polk was charged with murder for Mingo's death and was booked into the Dallas County Jail with bond set at $1 million.
The Garland Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting and has urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
