On March 3, 2015, 81-year-old Charlene Smith, a white female, was found dead alongside her husband, 85-year-old Arthur Smith, at the Winters Park Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Garland, Texas. The couple was discovered lying on the floor of Charlene's room by police officers who responded to a call about someone bleeding. Upon arrival, both Charlene and Arthur were found deceased.
The preliminary investigation and evidence at the scene led detectives to believe that Arthur
Smith shot and killed Charlene before turning the gun on himself. The official cause of death was to be determined by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office. The incident was classified as a murder-suicide, with no other suspects or arrests involved. The Garland Police Department conducted the investigation, and no further litigation or law cases were reported in connection with the deaths of Charlene and Arthur Smith.
