On April 14, 2024, 31-year-old Adam Rodriguez was found deceased from gunshot wounds in the 700 block of Neil Drive in Waco, Texas. Responding officers discovered Rodriguez lying in front of a Dodge Ram truck with multiple bullet casings in the vicinity. The truck's passenger door was open, and the hood exhibited several bullet holes. Inside the vehicle, officers found prescription medication prescribed to a woman previously involved in an incident at a nearby apartment in February 2024.
Investigators learned that Rodriguez had spent the evening of April 13 drinking with 31-year-old Mauricio Campuzano Jr. The two men reportedly had ongoing tensions over a woman. After visiting various locations, they left a bar and went to a relative's house, staying until about 3 a.m. Later that morning, Campuzano appeared at his parents' home, acting nervously, expressing love to his family while crying, before departing to an unknown location.
On April 15, 2024, authorities arrested Campuzano, charging him with murder in connection to Rodriguez's death. A McLennan County Grand Jury subsequently indicted Campuzano for murder. The investigation revealed that both men had been seen together the previous evening, and evidence suggested that the tensions between them culminated in the fatal shooting.
Rodriguez's funeral services were held on April 19, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marlin, Texas, with burial following at Chilton Cemetery. The tragic incident underscores the devastating impact of personal conflicts escalating into violence, leaving a lasting void in the lives of those who knew and loved Adam Rodriguez.
