On April 27, 2024, 24-year-old Alan Picazzo was fatally shot at The Quincy apartments, located at 91 Red River Street in Austin's Rainey Street District. Emergency responders arrived around 6:30 a.m. to find Picazzo with gunshot wounds; he was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a disturbance between Picazzo and 25-year-old Timmel Eggleston.
The altercation escalated into a shooting, leading to Picazzo's death.
Eggleston was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident. He was initially held in jail; however, a judge later granted a motion to reduce his bond, leading to his release. As a condition of his release, Eggleston was required to wear a GPS monitor. His attorney has asserted that the shooting was an act of self-defense.
The case remains under investigation, with authorities examining all available evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Austin Police Department continues to seek information from the public to aid in the investigation.
