On May 2, 2024, 16-year-old Isaac Aguirre was fatally shot in Dallas, Texas, following a minor traffic accident involving his mother, Ana Aguirre. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of North Masters Drive and Carolina Oaks Drive. Ana Aguirre, while pulling onto North Masters Drive, collided with an SUV. Shortly after the accident, a woman claiming to be the SUV driver's mother arrived at the scene and demanded Ana's insurance information.
Lacking a hard copy of her insurance card, Ana called her family for assistance, prompting Isaac to come to the scene. As tensions escalated, additional individuals associated with the other party arrived, leading to a heated confrontation. They briefly left but returned within minutes, at which point a male suspect exited their vehicle and opened fire, striking Isaac in the forehead and injuring two others. Isaac's father held him as he succumbed to his injuries.
In June 2024, Dallas police identified 17-year-old Pablo Veliz as the primary suspect in Isaac's murder. Veliz was also linked to the December 11, 2023, shooting death of 27-year-old Aarzo Jones, which occurred approximately a mile and a half from the location of Isaac's shooting. At the time of both incidents, Veliz was 16 years old. Following the identification, authorities issued arrest warrants for Veliz and sought public assistance in locating him. Crime Stoppers offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and indictment. In response to the tragic loss of their sons, the mothers of both victims, Ana Aguirre and Katherine Borders, met to support each other and advocate for justice. Their shared grief underscored the profound impact of gun violence on families and communities.
By mid-June 2024, authorities apprehended Veliz, bringing a measure of relief to the victims' families. The arrest marked a significant step toward justice for Isaac and Aarzo. The legal proceedings that followed aimed to address the grievous losses suffered by the Aguirre and Jones families, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat youth-involved violence in the Dallas area.
