On May 19, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of Alcorn Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old José Isidro Granados-Cerritos deceased in a pickup truck, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. A 12-year-old boy, also in the vehicle, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Two other occupants, including the driver and another juvenile, were unharmed.
Investigations revealed that the incident originated in the 600 block of Jonelle Avenue, where a minor vehicular accident occurred near a residence hosting a baby shower. Attendees of the event reportedly opened fire on Granados-Cerritos's vehicle as it passed by, leading to the fatal shooting and subsequent injury of the young passenger. The driver then fled the scene, stopping at the Alcorn Avenue location where police were called.
In the days following the incident, Dallas Police arrested multiple suspects in connection with the shooting. On May 25, 2024, authorities charged 21-year-old Valerie Davalos, 18-year-olds Guillermo Alvarez and John Marquez, a 14-year-old juvenile, a 16-year-old juvenile, and 19-year-old Kimberly Mejia with murder. Additionally, 26-year-old Alexis Rosales was arrested for a probation violation related to the case.
Granados-Cerritos, a father of four, had reportedly resumed playing soccer that day after a long hiatus. Tragically, his return to the sport was cut short by the fatal encounter.
The case drew significant attention due to the circumstances involving a family gathering and the involvement of multiple young suspects. The Dallas Police Department continues to investigate the incident to ensure all responsible parties are held accountable.
