On May 19, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting in the 2000 block of West Northwest Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered 34-year-old Jamal Cooksey lying in a parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations revealed that Cooksey had been standing in the parking lot with a friend after leaving a nearby club.
The area was bustling with activity, as an after-hours club was operating at the location, and the parking lot was filled with cars and pedestrians. Despite the crowded scene, the shooter fired from a distance, striking Cooksey.
In the months following the incident, Dallas police have been actively seeking leads to identify the perpetrator. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses captured images of a black Kia Optima, model years between 2016 and 2020, believed to be connected to the suspect. However, no distinctive features of the vehicle have been identified, and the suspect remains at large.
Detectives have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone who was present at the scene or who may have captured photos or videos that night to come forward. They hope that such evidence might provide crucial details to advance the investigation. As of December 2024, no arrests have been made, and the case remains open.
