On May 19, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., Edinburg police responded to a shooting incident at The Enclave Apartments located at 602 S. Pin Oak Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 43-year-old Alvi Aristegui Puyg deceased from a gunshot wound.
The investigation revealed that the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute over missing chicken. According to a probable cause affidavit, an argument escalated between Puyg and his cousin, 17-year-old Alberto Quintana.
Quintana's father recounted that Puyg was upset over two packs of missing chicken, leading to a heated exchange. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, Quintana warned Puyg to stop being aggressive before fatally shooting him in the head.
Following the incident, Quintana was detained at the scene and later charged with murder. He was arraigned at Edinburg Municipal Court, where his bond was set at $1.5 million. In August 2024, a Hidalgo County grand jury indicted Quintana on the murder charge, and he remains in custody at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.
