On May 29, 2024, 66-year-old Magin A. Hernandez was fatally shot in her home on Gunsight Pass in northwest Bexar County, San Antonio, Texas. Her husband, 64-year-old Dexter Reyes, contacted the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) around 10:40 a.m., claiming he had accidentally shot his wife.
Upon arrival, deputies found Hernandez deceased from a gunshot wound. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered at the scene.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office later ruled her death a homicide.
Following an investigation, BCSO determined that the shooting was not accidental. Sheriff Javier Salazar indicated that domestic violence was believed to be a motive in the fatal shooting. Consequently, Reyes was arrested and charged with murder.
Hernandez, originally from Concepcion, Batangas City, Philippines, had moved to the United States in 1991. She earned a degree in Agriculture from the University of the Philippines Los Baños and became a successful entrepreneur in San Antonio. She is survived by her two children and grandchildren.
