On June 7, 2024, 17-year-old Mario Jordan II was fatally shot at The Abbey at Briar Forest Apartments in Houston, Texas. According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), Jordan and his 21-year-old girlfriend had returned to his apartment when two men entered, robbed him of his jewelry, and shot him once in the arm. Emergency responders found Jordan unresponsive; despite medical assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initially, HPD described the incident as a drug deal gone wrong, a characterization that upset Jordan's family, who asserted he was not involved in drug activities. Subsequent investigations led HPD to update their statement, indicating that the shooting stemmed from a robbery. Jordan's parents emphasized that their son complied with the assailants' demands, surrendering his jewelry without resistance, yet was still shot. They also mentioned the possibility that Jordan knew the perpetrators, as he allowed them into the apartment.
The investigation identified two suspects: 20-year-old Jylon Nathaniel Dukes and 19-year-old Kamari Green, both charged with capital murder in the 262nd State District Court. Green was arrested on July 25, 2024, and booked into the Harris County Jail. Dukes remained at large for several months, with authorities believing he was in San Antonio. He was eventually apprehended and booked into the Comal County Jail on November 19, 2024.
Jordan's family described him as a kindhearted, caring, and free-spirited individual who was an aspiring entertainer and accountant. He leaves behind a young daughter.
