On June 15, 2024, during Round Rock's annual Juneteenth celebration at Old Settlers Park, a tragic shooting occurred, resulting in the death of 54-year-old Ara Duke from Pflugerville, Texas. The incident began around 10:50 p.m. when an altercation between two groups escalated, leading to gunfire that claimed the lives of Duke and 33-year-old Lyndsey Vicknair from Manor, Texas. Both women were innocent bystanders and not involved in the initial dispute.
