On July 4, 2024, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a tragic incident unfolded at the Crystal Clean Car Wash on West Cleburne Road in Fort Worth, Texas. Ivy Pierce, a 4-year-old girl, was among three individuals fatally shot during a fireworks celebration. Her 1-year-old sister, Wynter Thouston, and 42-year-old Terrell Winn also lost their lives in the attack.
The incident occurred as Ivy's family was preparing to leave the car wash after enjoying the fireworks display.
According to court documents, a confrontation had taken place between 26-year-old Kanard Trent Murphy and another attendee. Murphy, who had a history of disputes with the individual, reportedly set down his own infant child, retrieved a rifle from his vehicle, and began shooting. The five victims, including Ivy and her sister, were innocent bystanders who had no involvement in the altercation.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Ivy's mother attempted to perform CPR on her daughters but was unable to save them. She expressed her grief, stating, "I couldn't save my babies. Every time I close my eyes, I see their faces."
Murphy was arrested and charged with capital murder of multiple persons. He is accused of causing the deaths of Ivy, Wynter, and Terrell Winn, as well as injuring two other individuals.
The community mourned the loss of the two young sisters, who were described as full of happiness and always bringing joy to those around them. Family members held a balloon release in their memory, honoring their lives and the impact they had on their loved ones.
