On July 30, 2024, 18-year-old Ángel Nectalí Bonilla was found deceased inside a residence in the 400 block of West California Street in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Nacogdoches Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the home had been struck multiple times by gunfire and found Bonilla inside, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a planned robbery targeting the occupants of the residence. Seven individuals were implicated in the scheme, which involved an attempted theft of THC vape pens. The suspects had initially visited the residence to purchase the vape pens and later returned with the intent to rob the occupants. During the robbery, at least three of the suspects discharged firearms, resulting in Bonilla's death and injuries to two other individuals.
The Nacogdoches Police Department, with assistance from various agencies, conducted an extensive investigation that included serving multiple search warrants and conducting numerous interviews. This effort led to the arrest of seven suspects, each charged with capital murder in connection with Bonilla's death. The individuals arrested were:

- **Santiago Mendoza**, 19, of Nacogdoches
- **Gerardo Christopher Ocon**, 21, of Nacogdoches
- **Lionso Antonio Torres**, 19, of Nacogdoches
- **Eder Torres**, 17, of Nacogdoches
- **Martin H. Montalvo**, 19, of Lufkin
One of the suspects was apprehended in Louisiana, and arrangements were made for his extradition to Texas. The investigation was noted as involving the highest number of suspects in a single murder case in the history of the Nacogdoches Police Department. A significant number of firearms were recovered during the investigation, underscoring the dangerous nature of the criminal activities involved.
Ángel Bonilla was remembered by his family and community as a humble individual full of life. He had a deep affection for his pets, enjoyed playing video games with friends, and had a passion for soccer. His favorite color was blue, and he was known for his infectious smile that could light up any room. His untimely death has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
