Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Cesar Arturo Zavala Moreira unresponsive, with trauma to his head. Paramedics transported him to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 20-year-old Jose Raul Martinez as a suspect in Zavala Moreira's death. On August 15, Martinez was apprehended by the Houston Police Department's South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team. During questioning, Martinez admitted to his involvement in the incident. Subsequently, he was charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court.
