On August 26, 2024, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Houston police officers responded to a shooting incident at 10401 West Bellfort Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Jessie Quiroz lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 40-year-old male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Investigations revealed that the surviving victim had engaged in a verbal altercation with 30-year-old suspect, Davion McMullen. During the dispute, McMullen allegedly drew a firearm and fired multiple shots, striking the man. Tragically, Mr. Quiroz, who was uninvolved in the altercation and walking some distance behind, was also hit by the gunfire.
Following the incident, the Harris County District Attorney's Office filed charges against McMullen for murder and aggravated assault in the 174th State District Court. On September 11, 2024, members of the Houston Police Department's South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team arrested McMullen, who was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.
The tragic death of Mr. Quiroz, an innocent bystander, underscores the devastating impact of gun violence on the community. His passing has been memorialized by family and friends, who remember him for his kindness and the joy he brought into their lives.
