On the evening of September 20, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Houston police officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Braeswood Plaza apartment complex, located at 5430 Birdwood Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Robert Culver, 63, unresponsive inside an apartment, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced Mr. Culver deceased at the scene.
Witnesses reported observing a man and a woman inside the apartment prior to the shooting, who were later seen in the parking lot of the complex. Both individuals were detained by officers without incident. The male was identified as 39-year-old Warren Del Unkefer. Following an investigation, which included consultations with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Unkefer was determined to be the shooter and was subsequently charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court. The female was questioned and released without charges.
