On October 14, 2024, at approximately 7:18 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call reporting two individuals in a parking lot with gunshot wounds, not breathing. Upon arrival at 1805 Burton Drive, officers and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) located a male and female inside a vehicle, both with apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as 27-year-old Francis Kaina Anseume Corredor and 19-year-old Bryan Florentino Flores Alvarez.
Both were pronounced deceased at the scene at 8 a.m.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. Surveillance footage from the apartment complex showed a silver SUV, consistent with a vehicle owned by 31-year-old Sherles Machado-Hernandez, arriving at approximately 3:25 a.m. Machado-Hernandez, identified as the common-law husband of Anseume Corredor, was seen approaching the victims' vehicle and opening the passenger door. The investigation revealed that Machado-Hernandez shot both Anseume Corredor and Flores Alvarez before fleeing in his silver Mitsubishi Outlander.
Further investigation uncovered that Anseume Corredor had three children, two of whom were fathered by Machado-Hernandez. When authorities were initially unable to locate Machado-Hernandez and the children, an AMBER Alert was issued. Shortly thereafter, Machado-Hernandez's family informed the police that he had dropped the children off with his brother before borrowing a Toyota and leaving. The Toyota was later observed at an apartment complex on Wickersham Lane, where Machado-Hernandez switched to another vehicle, a Kia Sorrento. APD patrol officers, along with other specialized units, conducted a traffic stop on the Kia Sorrento in the 900 block of Fairfield Drive in north Austin. Machado-Hernandez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Travis County Jail on charges of capital murder.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 51st and 52nd homicides of 2024. The swift apprehension of Machado-Hernandez was facilitated by coordinated efforts among various law enforcement units and the timely issuance of the AMBER Alert, which played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the children involved.
