Savanna Corrine Callaway Jolley, a 22-year-old White woman and loving mother to a young daughter, was killed on the night of October 19, 2024. In the wake of her death, family and friends organized fundraisers to provide for her daughter and cover memorial expenses, remembering a life cut tragically short.

That evening, Savanna was an innocent bystander at a late-night party in the 100 block of Howard Drive in Midland, Texas. She was sitting in the driver’s seat of her parked black Dodge Durango when a vehicle drove by and its occupants opened fire. The shooting was described by prosecutors as gang-related and directed at another man at the party. Savanna, who was not involved in the dispute, was struck by the gunfire and died from her wounds at the scene.

Midland Police Department investigators used surveillance footage from nearby homes to identify the suspect vehicle as a black 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. After locating the truck, a search produced a gun and spent casings that matched the caliber of evidence recovered from the crime scene. This discovery quickly led detectives to three suspects.

Police arrested Ivan Blake Galindo, 18, and Joe-Daniel “JD” Gutierrez, 18. During questioning, Galindo admitted to driving the Silverado. Gutierrez admitted that he and another person in the truck had fired a handgun, targeting a man with whom he was having “problems.” That man had been standing near Savanna’s vehicle. A third suspect, 18-year-old Daniel Velasquez, was apprehended on October 31 after he attempted to hide from officers and was found “covered in sewage.” All three men were charged with murder.

In October 2025, Joe Daniel Gutierrez pleaded guilty to murder as part of a plea agreement and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Following a weeklong trial, a jury convicted Daniel Velasquez of murder in February 2026. He was sentenced to 75 years in prison and will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.

As of February 2026, the case against Ivan Galindo, the alleged driver of the vehicle used in the shooting, was still pending.
