On January 17, 2023, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the Antioch Police Department received multiple calls reporting a shooting at The Spot Liquor Store, located at 1108 Sycamore Drive in the Sycamore Square shopping center. Upon arrival, officers found 25-year-old Pittsburg resident, Emani Flenoid, in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined that a dispute had occurred between Flenoid and the suspect prior to the shooting. The suspect shot Flenoid and fled the scene. Through their investigation, detectives identified 19-year-old Corey Hill of Antioch as the suspect. Hill was arrested in Orinda on unrelated charges and subsequently linked to Flenoid's homicide.
On February 15, 2023, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office charged Hill with murder, including enhancements for using a firearm. He was held at the Martinez Detention Facility with bail set at two million dollars.
In May 2024, Corey Hill was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of Emani Flenoid. At the time of the shooting, Hill was 19 years old.
The Antioch Police Department acknowledged the assistance of the Orinda and Lafayette Police Departments, California Highway Patrol, and Contra Costa Sheriff's Office in Hill's arrest. They also expressed gratitude to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office for their partnership in pursuing justice for the victim and his family.
