On January 21, 2023, at approximately 10:22 p.m. PST, a tragic mass shooting occurred at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, California, during a Lunar New Year celebration. The assailant, 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, opened fire inside the studio, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals and injuries to nine others.
