On January 28, 2023, at approximately 2:35 a.m., a tragic shooting occurred in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles, resulting in the deaths of three women: 33-year-old Iyana Hutton from Chicago, 29-year-old Nenah Davis from Bolingbrook, Illinois, and 26-year-old Destiny Sims from Buckeye, Arizona. The victims were found fatally shot inside a vehicle parked outside a short-term rental residence in the 2700 block of North Ellison Drive. Six other individuals sustained injuries during the incident, with two critically wounded and the others in stable condition.

The gathering at the short-term rental was organized by a group of young adults from Chicago who had traveled to Los Angeles to support a local rapper. After an evening of bowling, they returned to the rental property, where an ambush-style attack occurred, leading to the tragic loss of life. The assailants fired at least 30 shots, with several vehicles observed fleeing the scene, including a blue four-door Tesla with damage to the passenger-side fender and no license plates.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) initiated an extensive investigation. Detectives served a search warrant at an apartment in the 8600 block of Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, where they found the residence unoccupied. The investigation revealed that the suspects were connected to gang activity in Chicago, and the victims were not believed to have been the intended targets.

On May 12, 2023, LAPD officials announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the triple homicide: 28-year-old Daries Stanford, 22-year-old Dontae Williams, and 28-year-old DeJean Thompkins. Stanford was apprehended in New York, while Thompkins and Williams were arrested in Chicago. All three suspects have gang affiliations and are facing multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Thompkins is also connected to a December 2022 killing in North Hollywood.

The arrests brought relief to the victims' families and the community, highlighting the devastating impact of gang violence and the importance of collaborative law enforcement efforts in addressing such crimes.
