On February 5, 2023, 10-year-old Frankie "Frank" Rene Rosiles Jr. was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in Olivehurst, California. Frankie was inside a residence on Alicia Avenue, spending time with his cousins and uncle, when a bullet fired from outside penetrated the home, fatally striking him in the abdomen. Emergency responders transported him to Adventist Health and Rideout Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The investigation revealed that the shooter, 31-year-old Juan Martin Ortiz, had a prior altercation at the residence earlier that day. Ortiz, who had fathered a child with a relative of the household, engaged in a physical confrontation with Frankie's uncle, Michael Ramirez Sr. After being beaten unconscious, Ortiz left the scene with his nephew, only to return later, at which point he fired multiple shots into the home. One of these bullets tragically struck Frankie. Individuals inside the residence returned fire, injuring Ortiz. He was later apprehended by law enforcement after abandoning his vehicle and attempting to flee on foot.

Ortiz was arrested and charged with murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. In July 2023, he pleaded guilty to the murder charge and, in September 2023, was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison. The tragic loss of young Frankie deeply affected the Olivehurst community, prompting grief and calls for justice. His family remembered him as a loving, caring, and funny child who excelled in school and enjoyed playing baseball.
