On February 17, 2023, at approximately 1:12 a.m., Ventura County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon at a residence on Sandra Court in Newbury Park, California. Upon arrival, they encountered 33-year-old Brennan Post and other family members residing in the home. Deputies learned that Post had shot his sister, 25-year-old Cassidy Snow, who was found in her bedroom and pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The siblings lived with their mother and Post's stepfather in the Sandra Court home. Snow, a 2015 graduate of Newbury Park High School, was employed by iPermit, a duct testing and permitting company based in Westlake Village. Her colleagues described her as "one of the hardest working people we know" and initiated a GoFundMe campaign in her memory to support a suicide prevention charity, a cause important to Snow.
Authorities arrested Post at the scene without incident and recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Snow died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling her death a homicide. Law enforcement has not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting. Post, who had no prior criminal record in Ventura County, was charged with first-degree murder, with a special allegation of personally discharging a firearm resulting in death. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail at the Todd Road Jail.
As of September 2024, Post's case remains active in the legal system. An early disposition conference is scheduled for September 26, 2024, providing an opportunity for the parties to resolve the case without proceeding to trial. If convicted, Post faces a potential life sentence.
