On March 6, 2023, at approximately 1:15 a.m., a tragic shooting occurred at a residence on Rogue River Drive in Sacramento County's La Riviera neighborhood. Among the victims was 59-year-old Sacramento resident, Jack Vernon James Jr., who was pronounced dead at the scene alongside 66-year-old Vicki Lynn Bright. Two other individuals sustained critical injuries; one of them, 63-year-old Bob White, succumbed to his injuries on March 9, bringing the total fatalities to three.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 31-year-old Robbene Luke Bryson, who was known to the victims and had been staying as a houseguest at the residence. Following the incident, Bryson fled the scene but was apprehended on March 8 in Nevada County. He now faces multiple charges, including three counts of murder, attempted murder, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and animal cruelty, as a dog was also fatally shot during the incident.
Investigators have indicated that the attack was not random, given Bryson's prior acquaintance with the victims. However, specific details regarding the motive behind the shooting have not been disclosed. The community remains in mourning as authorities continue their investigation into this devastating event.
