Gustavo Garcia, a 9-year-old boy, was tragically shot and killed on July 14, 2017, in Chicago's South Side. Gustavo was riding in an SUV late at night when shots were fired at the vehicle, injuring a 31-year-old man in addition to Gustavo. He was the 14th child aged 12 or under to be shot in Chicago that year, and the fourth to be killed. No arrests were made in connection to his death, which occurred during a weekend marked by multiple shootings throughout the city.
