On April 17, 2023, at approximately 2:03 a.m., Anaheim Police responded to reports of a shooting outside a restaurant at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Ball Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Carleatis Richards suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Richards was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
During the initial response, officers observed two male juveniles fleeing the scene.
The individuals were detained and, following an investigation, identified as the primary suspects in the shooting. Both juveniles were arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall. Due to their ages, authorities have withheld their identities.
The Anaheim Police Department has not disclosed a motive for the shooting. They have urged anyone with additional information to contact the department at 714-765-1900 or reach out to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS or via their website at www.occrimestoppers.org.
Richards' death has left a significant impact on his community, with reports indicating he is survived by two children. A GoFundMe page was established to support his family during this difficult time. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to understand the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.
