On April 19, 2023, at approximately 1:40 p.m., San Jose police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Blossom River Drive, near the Westfield Oakridge Shopping Center. Upon arrival, officers discovered 41-year-old San Jose resident Jorge Torres Maestre suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, Maestre was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses indicated that Maestre had been out walking his dog at the time of the incident. The sudden and violent nature of the crime left the community in shock, as Maestre was known locally as a friendly neighbor who often walked his pet in the area.

Following a comprehensive investigation, San Jose police identified 18-year-old San Mateo resident, Matthew Antracoli, as the primary suspect in the shooting. On May 9, 2023, undercover officers from the department’s Covert Response Unit arrested Antracoli in Morgan Hill. He was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of homicide.

While the exact motive remains under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that Antracoli may have been attempting to steal Maestre's dog or other property at the time of the shooting. Authorities have not disclosed any prior connection between the suspect and the victim.

This incident marked San Jose's ninth homicide of 2023. The San Jose Police Department continues to urge anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
