On May 23, 2023, 20-year-old Trey Walker was fatally shot outside the San Diego Central Library in the East Village neighborhood. The incident occurred around 12:17 p.m. in the plaza in front of the library, where officers found Walker and a 24-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
